As close as possible

In the complex operation of the Berlin Airlift and the supply of the blockaded city, the Allies benefited from their experiences in the air war against Nazi Germany. Tens of thousands of young British and American aircraft crews had accumulated their flying experience during World War II. Many of these crews had previously participated in the RAF Bomber Command in the bombing of the German Reich and were now able to apply their geographical knowledge for peaceful purposes. Due to the high frequency of flights over Berlin and in the air corridors, there were very dangerous situations, which pilots like Eric Thale, however, often met with a bit of humor. Eric Thale liked to comment on the footage he took from his Avro Lincoln in his own way. These recordings also illustrate how close and tight it was in the Berlin air corridors day and night.
