Camel Clarence

Clarence the camel

A young camel called Clarence became the mascot of the US Football Teams in Neubiberg, Bavaria in August 1948. In the late summer of that year, Clarence was used to collect donations for the children in the blockaded Berlin. Clarence the camel achieved a great deal of attention in the media and a C-47 plane even had the slogan of the donations campaign – “Camel Caravan to Berlin” – written on its fuselage. On October 21st Clarence came to Berlin with this plane.
