The Berlin Airlift of 1948-1949, the first conflict of the Cold War between Western nations and the Soviet Union, was of immense historical significance and continues to have undiminished relevance and impact today.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Airlift in 2023 and 2024, the Royal Air Force Museum, the Bundeswehr Military History Museum, the National Museum of the United States Air Force, and the Allied Museum have joined forces to create this digital exhibition. Throughout the anniversary period, multiple posts will be published weekly on a specially created website to paint a multifaceted picture of the events that took place 75 years ago. The focus of this exhibition is not on the political dimension, but rather on highlighting the people behind the events.
Drawing inspiration from the historical circumstances, this exhibition reflects various perspectives: 4 museums, 4 curators, 4 viewpoints - united by a common goal. The aim is to provide visitors with a vivid and timeless portrayal of the events of that era. For the Berlin Airlift is more relevant today than ever, and its significance extends far beyond the borders of Berlin.
