Ralph Levy: RAF Groundcrew

At the start of the Berlin airlift, Ralph Levy was completing his service as an RAF electrician at Wunstorf airbase in West Germany. He remembers how the base changed with the start of the operation. Fighter aircraft were flown out, and priority was given to transports. As he later said: ‘The whole RAF station changed completely. There was no entertainment, there was no time off, it was ‘you’re on duty the whole time’.
