The Avro Lancastrian

The Avro Lancastrian was a civilian version of the RAF’s famous Lancaster bomber of the Second World War. With armament removed, it was capable of carrying 9 to 13 passengers, or cargo, including liquid fuel, depending on version. Lancastrians participated in the Berlin Airlift, flown by civilian crews working for commercial companies. Their ability to carry petrol and other liquid fuel into Berlin was particularly significant, as few other aircraft were able to do so.
